A lawyer sl4mmed the Kapamilya journalist Karen Davila after the latter expressed her opinion on her Twitter account about the fifth State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a Twitter post, Karen complained about how President Duterte criticized the ABS-CBN and Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon during his SONA on Monday, July 27.
Karen said President Duterte should prioritize talking about his plans in the country amid the pand3mic instead of throwing crit1cisms.
The journalist wrote,
“No senator or private company deserves to be mentioned at the opening of the President’s SONA. This is about the state of the country, where we are, where we are going, not about personal vendettas or feelings. People are hungry and jobless. People are looking for inspiration.”

Atty. Nick said,

The President said,
“In an interview, [Drilon] arrogantly mentioned that oligarchs need not be rich then he linked the Anti-dynasty system with oligarchy and the topic was my daughter and son.”
He added,
“This happened after the committee of franchises voted 70-11 to deny the grant of franchise to ABS-CBN…Obviously [Drilon] was defending the Lopezes that they were not oligarchs.”
Meanwhile, Drilon made a statement over what the President said to him, saying he was defending the freedom of the press and not the Lopezes.
The Senator said,
“I was defending freedom of the press, not the Lopezes. The closure of the ABS-CBN sent a chilling effect.”
He added,
“As I said before, for democracy to thrive we need free press and to allow journalists to exercise complete freedom to do their mandate of reporting facts without fear.”
