President Rodrigo Duterte warned the telecommunications company PLDT that he will not hesitate to close down the company if they would refuse to add more complaint hotlines on government services.
This statement of President Duterte was during his speech at the campaign rally of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan in Cebu City yesterday evening.
Duterte said the 8888 is always busy due to the large number of citizens calling the hotline for their complaint. But it should not always be busy, especially at this time of the cr!sis. So if PLDT doesn't want to add more complaint hotlines in their company, he will force them to shut down.

He said,
“Og naa moy nakit-an nga c0rruption, tawga ko o pahibaw-a ko sa 8888. Kin — Bong, padungagi ra na’g trunk line. Dili kaya sa present setup. Sige busy. Ingnang PLDT. Og dili, sila may akong sirhan.”
(Kung may nakita kayong c0rruption, sabihan ako sa 8888. Kay Bong – padagdagan mo ng trunk line (para sa mga reklamo). Hindi maaring laging busy ang hotline tulad ngayon. Sabihan mo (Bong Go) ang PLDT. Kung ayaw nila, ipapasara ko sila.)

The President added,
“Oo. Tinuod na. Di lang ko gustong manghambog. Naay utang sa gobyerno eight billion. Sukad pa na niadto. Way presidente nakapaningil. Pagka presidente nako ana ko.”
(Oo. Totoo yan. Ayaw ko nalang mag yabang. May utang yan sa gobyerno na 8 billion. Simula pa noon. Walang presidente ang nakapaningil. Noong ako ang naupo, ganito ako.)

It can be recalled that President Duterte signed Executive Order 6 way back in 2016 to create an 8888 hotline. This hotline aims for the people who had complaints about c0rruption in any government offices and agencies.
But as 8888 hotline can't accompany the huge number of people reporting a complaint, the President wanted to add more complaint hotlines on government services.
