A public utility bus rammed another bus, 11 motorcycles, and a car on Friday morning because of malfunctioning brakes while traveling along Osmena Highway in Makati City. The incident injured 13 people.
According to the report from Makati City police, the incident happened at 9 in the morning near Antonio Arnaiz Avenue in Barangay Pio Del Pilar, Makati City.
Based on the initial investigation conducted by IOC Pems Romel L. Salvador, the north-bound public utility bus, a Ford Focus, and 11 motorcycles stopped in the road in compliance to the red stop signal of the traffic light it was at this instance when the public utility bus' brake allegedly malfunction causing its front end portion to crashed the rear end portion of the sedan, the motorcycles, and the front-right side part of the immobile bus.
The police report read,
"As a result thereof, vehicles involved incurred damage while the drivers of the motorcycles with 2 back-riders were injured."
The injured people were brought to different hospitals, OSMAK, Makati Med, St. Lukes Global for treatment. Meanwhile, the driver of the public utility bus is identified as a 29-year-old male married man. He works as a bus driver of PNR Site Western Bicutan Taguig City.
The driver, on the other hand, was brought at the office of the Makati City Police Station's Vehicular Traffic Investigation Unit for questioning. The said office will conduct follow investigation about the identification of victims.
Road incidents are truly inevitable. "Malfunctioning brakes" is indeed one of the problems in the road not only in the Philippines but also in different parts of the world. So we should really be extra careful and always check our vehicles to ensure the safety of the passengers and the other people.
Meanwhile, many netizens express their anger and frustration over the incidents with some said that MMDA should focus on the public bus vehicles because some busses consider itself as the king of the road.
